Credit Transfer Guidelines

Purpose and Vision of Credit Transfer

The NWAC American High School Diploma Program aims to provide a relevant and recognised international K-12 program to students. Students in the K-12 years, have a high drop-out rate in India. A number of students who are keen and willing to continue their school education aren't able to do so, because of many factors beyond their control. A number of students who can positively contribute to the skilled economic workforce of the nation aren't able to reach that level of proficiency and skill, primarily due to their inability to complete their schooling. In addition to this, there is a group of students who have completed their schooling, but are not able to achieve the desired performance and results.

Students typically invest a very important and valuable part of their formative years in attending schools and qualifying different grades. A lot of times, owing to the inability of the students to continue their school education, months and more so years of effort and time goes waste. The student in spite of the willingness to continue formal school education, has no choice but to sacrifice her/his course achievement, previous qualification and hence the career. NWAC American High School Diploma Program aims to provide a valid international school qualification to such genuine students, so that they can eventually contribute to their households, economy and the nation at large.

Description and explanation of Credit Transfer under NWAC American High School Diploma Program

For understanding the details of Credit Transfer in NWAC AHSDP, three important points need to be considered. They are:

  1. Credit Transfer in NWAC AHSDP is allowed for a maximum of two subjects.
  2. In Grade IX, X, XI or XII, the total number of subjects that the student should successfully qualify (after completing all course requirements and credits) should be either 6 or 7 (whether the student opts for credit transfer or not). The total number of subjects (on the final transcript of NWAC AHSDP) can neither be less than 6 nor more than 7.
  3. English, Environmental Studies & Physical Education are the 3 mandatory subjects of NWAC AHSDP irrespective of the Grade (whether IX, X, XI or XII). Whether the student applies for Credit Transfer or not, these three subjects should be compulsorily present (and of course successfully qualified by the student) on the final transcript of the student. The student has no choice but to successfully earn credits in these three subjects (whether by completing the required credits in the course of NWAC AHSDP or transferring previous successful credits earned for these subjects for the respective grade).

Let us now take an example to clarify and understand the system of credit transferbetter. Suppose a student has successfully earned three credits (i.e. she/he has successfully passed and completed the course requirements of three subjects, including the final/annual/year-end examination), one each in English, Mathematics and Physics, in any valid and authorized Board (Please refer to the SERI website seriindia.org for more information on valid/authorized Boards) for Grade XII. Let us also suppose, that the student has not been successful (not been able to successfully earn credits or not been able to successfully qualify/complete the course requirements for those subjects) in three other subjects, i.e. Chemistry, Hindi and Computer Science. Now if the student wants to complete her/his final Grade XII qualifications through the NWAC AHSDP, she/he has the following options:

  1. The student may decide to complete all the course requirements with NWAC American High School Diploma Program afresh. This implies that she/he would not be opting for any Credit Transfer and shall take all the examinations afresh and complete all other course requirements with NWAC AHSDP.
  2. The student may decide to complete all the course requirements with NWAC AHSDP, however would like to/opt to transfer 1 previous credit, which she/he has successfully qualified/earned. If the student transfers the Credit for English, then she/he would be exempted from appearing for English for the NWAC AHSDP exams, and her/his previous credits/marks will be transferred to his Grade XII transcript/marksheet. In that case, the student will take 5 or 6 (depending on whether she/he wants to complete a total of 6 or 7 total credits) other subjects with NWAC AHSDP and complete their course credits. Going by this particular example, the student would take the following subjects:
    1. Environmental Studies (Because this is a mandatory subject)
    2. Physical Education (Because this is a mandatory subject)
    3. Physics (As it is already present in his previous credits/choice of subject)
    4. Chemistry (As it is already present in his previous credits/choice of subject)
    5. Mathematics (As it is already present in his previous credits/choice of subject)

And She/he may apply for one more subject if she/he wants to complete his NWAC AHSDP with 7 subjects

If the student transfers the Credit for Mathematics, then she/he would be exempted from appearing for Mathematics for the NWAC AHSDP exams, and her/his previous credits/grades/marks will be transferred to his Grade XII transcript/documents. In that case, the student will take 5 or 6 (depending on whether she/he wants to complete a total of 6 or 7 total credits) other subjects with NWAC AHSDP and complete their course credits. Going by this particular example, the student would take the following subjects:

    1. English (Because it is a mandatory subject)
    2. Environmental Studies (Because it is a mandatory subject)
    3. Physical Education (Because it is a mandatory subject)
    4. Physics (As it is already present in his previous credits/choice of subject)
    5. Chemistry (As it is already present in his previous credits/choice of subject)
  3. The student may decide to complete all the course requirements with NWAC AHSDP, however would like to/opt to transfer 2 previous credits, which she/he has successfully qualified/earned. If the student transfers the Credits for English and Mathematics, then she/he would be exempted from appearing for English and Mathematics for the NWAC AHSDP exams, and her/his previous credits/marks will be transferred to his Grade XII transcript/marksheet. In that case, the student will take 4 or 5 (depending on whether she/he wants to complete a total of 6 or 7 total credits) other subjects with NWAC AHSDP and complete their course credits.

And She/he may apply for one more subject if she/he wants to complete his NWAC AHSDP with 7 subjects

If the student transfers the Credit for Mathematics and Physics, then she/he would be exempted from appearing for Mathematics and Physics for the NWAC AHSDP exams, and her/his previous credits/grades/marks will be transferred to her/his Grade XII transcript/marksheet. In that case, the student will take 4 or 5 (depending on whether she/he wants to complete a total of 6 or 7 total credits) other subjects with NWAC AHSDP and complete their course credits. Going by this particular example, the student would take the following subjects:

    1. English (Because it is a mandatory subject)
    2. Environmental Studies (Because it is a mandatory subject)
    3. Physical Education (Because it is a mandatory subject)
    4. Chemistry (As it is already present in his previous credits/choice of subject)

And She/he may apply for one more subject if she/he wants to complete his NWAC AHSDP with 7 subjects

In any of the above or other cases, to allow the student to appear/apply for NWAC AHSDP, or opt for Credit Transfer, the relevant original/certified supporting documents have to be submitted to SERI/NWAC Regional Office. The final discretion for any of the above or any other cases, to allow the student to appear/apply for NWAC AHSDP depend on the authority/management of SERI/NWAC Regional Office.
