Part B - Internal Assessment (30 Marks)
30 Marks
Internal assessment in Physical Education is based on Physical Efficiency Tests. These tests are organised and conducted in the presence of an External Examiner. Tests 1 to 3 are generally carried out on one day and Tests 4 and 5 on the next day.
Test 1 - 50 metre run
Standing start sprint over 50 metres. Timing to be taken to the nearest tenth of a second in relatively windless conditions without extremes of temperature.
Test 2 - Standing long jump
Conducted on a flat, non-slip surface. Candidate stands with toes just behind the take-off line, swings arms and jumps with both feet together to land as far forward as possible. Distance jumped is measured in centimetres.
Test 3 - Distance run
Endurance run to assess stamina - 1000 metres run for boys and 600 metres run for girls. Time is recorded to the nearest second.
Test 4 - Shuttle run
A 10 metre flat course between two parallel base lines with semicircles (50 cm radius) marked behind each. Two wooden blocks (5 × 5 × 5 cm) are placed in the far semicircle. Candidate runs on signal, picks one block, places it in the starting semicircle, repeats for the second block. Time to the nearest tenth of a second is taken until the second block is grounded.
Test 5 - 30-second sit-ups
Candidate lies on a mat, feet about 30 cm apart, knees bent at right angles. Hands (fingers interlocked) are placed behind the head. Partner holds the feet. On 'Go', candidate sits up to touch elbows to knees and returns to start position repeatedly. Number of correct sit-ups completed in 30 seconds is recorded.
